We believe that the learning of a modern foreign language (MFL) provides children with a valuable educational, social and cultural experience. Our scheme of work and resources ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning. From Year 3 children begin to develop their linguistic competence, extending their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities between French and English.
By learning another language, pupils raise their awareness of our multi-lingual and multi-cultural world and are introduced to an international dimension to their learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and that of others. Children who transition to local secondary schools will continue to develop their French linguistic skills in Key Stage 3 and 4.
